Since 2010 the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been supporting the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) as well as selected State Governments and Urban Local Bodies (ULB’s) in the implementation of the NUSP. The first phase of the programme consisted on the preparation of City Sanitation Plans CSPs in 6 selected cities: Shimla, Raipur, Varanasi, Kochi, Nasik and Tirupati. The drafting of the CSPs was carried out in collaboration with the officials of the Local Bodies and selected partners, who gathered a wealth of experiences about the process, including challenges as well as best practices. This module shows an introduction to the Programme “Support to the National Urban Sanitation Policy” as well as the three basic steps that lead to the definition of the CSPs: formation of the City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF), Preparation of Status Report and Preparation of Action Plans.
