In order to optimise the nutrient and water cycle at a local level and to achieve food security, the nutrients contained in wastewater, urine and faeces can be reused as fertiliser to produce agricultural products. If water is not used anymore for agriculture, industry or households, it can be reused for groundwater recharge or needs to be safely disposed off.
