Introduction to Water Sources
This is the Water Sources Tools site.
Perspectives are different frameworks from which to explore the knowledge around sustainable sanitation and water management. Perspectives are like filters: they compile and structure the information that relate to a given focus theme, region or context. This allows you to quickly navigate to the content of your particular interest while promoting the holistic understanding of sustainable sanitation and water management.
In this section you’ll find hardware and software tools for different water sources based on source types (e.g. rainfall, surface water, ground water, waste water etc.) and well as collection systems (e.g. individual or centralised collection, open dug well, bore well, rainwater harvesting etc.). Selecting appropriate tools, it is important to analyse the interlinkages with other areas of the water and nutrient cycle by asking the question “What influences your water sources?” This may concern the form of wastewater treatment in the locality, a lack of wastewater treatment in an upstream community or the water consumption of local industries, agriculture or households; etc.
