The National Urban Sanitation Policy was launched in 2008 by the Ministry of Urban Development of the Government of India with the aim of transforming urban India into community-driven, totally sanitised, healthy and liveable cities and towns. The policy contains specific guidelines for State Governments and Urban Local Bodies on how to proceed during the definition of the regional plans (State and City) and provides key policy issues that serve as strategic dimensions during the process. This section aims to present NUSP’s contents and annexures in order to serve as reference for practitioners in India working in this field, as well as decision makers from other countries in the process of defining their sanitation policy.
